What hosting option that works best for a website developer in the making?

Someone was asking me to develop a web site for his business (he wants to do it cheap). I tried to dissuade her, because I am inexperienced in doing business websites. It is a learning experience for me so I agreed to do it for FREE! Here's the thing: I have developed websites before, but for organizations and churches, and for personal use.
